A term used by the Nazis to describe people from North Europe. They were typically supposed to be tall with fair hair and blue eyes, and were members of what they called a 'master race'. The word was originally used to describe ancient Indo-European people or their languages but race scientists and the Nazis confused this and changed its meaning.
