Walter Rathenau

Was the son of the well known German industrialist Emil Rathenau, the founder of the giant electrical appliance firm AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts Gesellschaft). Walter was a soldier in the Kaiser's army but his promotion was blocked because he was not a Christian. After the First World War he was appointed Foreign Minister of Germany. There he became a target of right wing extremists who blamed the Jews for Germany's defeat in the war. Walter was murdered in 1922.
