Coming from an artistic upper class background, Schirach had an early flair for poetry. He hated Christianity, and became a strong antisemite after reading works by Henry Ford and Houston Stewart-Chamberlain. By 1925 he had joined the SA. He gained Hitler's approvalI and in 1929 he became head of the Nazi German Student's League; in 1931, Reich Youth Leader. He aimed to integrate all youth movements into the already existing Hitler Youth or the Bund Deutscher Mädel (BDM).
