A primative religious or ornamental symbol that has been used for the past six thousand years, in places ranging from Troy to Japan to North America. Sometimes used to symbolise the sun's movement, it was considered to bring luck. The symbol's name comes from 'Svastika' in Hindu Sanskrit. 'Svasti' meant 'prosperity'. From 1910, the swastika was being used in Germany as a symbol of the 'superior Aryan race'. The Nazi Party adopted the Swastika officially as their emblem.
